Science Discussion

Hazmat Cleaning Suit

Let me start by saying, the picture to the left is NOT mine, but it's from an article we read today. You can find the full article here.

The photo came up in my Facebook feed this morning and it really irked me... For a ton of reasons. I sent a message to a friend that simply said "I have a lot to say about this" with a link to the article. She also has a toxin-free home and helps others live that lifestyle so I knew she could relate.

I decided to turn this into a "hands-on science" lesson.

We have encouraged the kids to have great discussions and be open-minded when it comes to this type of stuff. I had a feeling this was going to be no exception.

I presented the assignment (you can see it --->) and let the kids talk through what they saw in the picture first.

Many lightbulbs going off with many grossed-out faces. Will even made the comment that would be terrible for me - he's allergic to bleach. See below as to what they had to say on the matter.

Another way our house is different is, we don't use toxins - at all. Everything we use is eco-friendly and safe. It's done wonders for our overall health. After reading what is in the "cleaners" that are mass-marketed we made a commitment to do better.

We're not conspiracy theorists, but we are trying to approach life with a practical and rational viewpoint. The things that we are being told do NOT add up. We are pro data. We lean towards anti masks (especially outside!) and we are anti-vaccine until there is long-term data to show effectiveness, we won't even consider it. We are pro kindness and believe everybody has a right to their own decisions however they arrive at that and we ask the same kindness and respect in return.
