How we prepared

I think that everybody can agree that this is a very weird time right now with COVID-19 and the uncertainty. Life is just drastically different for everybody right now. I don’t want to go into detail about why, I just want to share what I’ve done to help feel ready.

Flavoring syrups
I ordered two separate things of flavoring syrups so that I can create a variety of things. Originally I was thinking that it’d be great for coffee, but there’s so much more!! Overnight oatmeal, tea, boba drinks. I have strawberry, peach, coconut, raspberry, caramel, butter toffee, mocha, vanilla, hazelnut and salted caramel. It was something that normally I wouldn’t have bought, but knowing that we’re having these stay in place orders getting them in bigger sizes made sense.

Mason jars
We’ve had a set of the quart size mason jars for a while. I have the white plastic lids instead of canning lids. We’ve used them for leftovers, but they’re kind of big. I do have one in my refrigerator filled with yeast! I just bought a dozen of the half pint jars and I’m in love. I made overnight oatmeal in them last night and they fit perfectly on the top rack of our tiny RV fridge. I think we could probably do with a middle size too and that’s totally on our radar.

Online Wellness Shopping Club
This is nothing new, I’ve had it for years and I love it. I get my laundry detergent and cleaning supplies from here. Plus I get protein powder and nutritional supplements. They have everything!

Azure
After realizing that the shelves were completely empty of raw ingredients I needed to find a way to get those. I did some searching and just about everything I found shipping was way too expensive. The prices on Amazon Prime weren’t that great either. I found that Azure Standard had a drop off near me. I was able to get large quantities and the prices were fantastic. I’ve already received one delivery and next week I’m getting another. We will have enough flour here to support ourselves and if anybody needs, I can spare and share.  Click here to check it out.

Butcher
When we lived in a stick and brick house I loved to shop in bulk. We had two refrigerators with freezers and an additional deep freeze. It was usually stocked with tons of choices. Now we only have the RV refrigerator and freezer. They are tiny. However, it’s still possible to get some large quantities.
Check out what we ordered here.

Local egg source
When we were getting our mailbox they had a business card there that said local farm fresh eggs, $3 a dozen. So I took down the information. I’ve bought 3 dozen already and was pleased, so now I need to plan out the days I’m going to work in the kitchen and I’ll know how many I’ll need and when!

Greenhouse
Our newest addition!! It’s a fifty inch greenhouse. I ordered one off of Walmart.com. I started our seedlings on a heated mat and trays. I have no idea what I’m doing, so there could be some interesting things as you follow along… My goal is to have stuff to make salads, salsas and sauces!
